Ridge Trails Association Outstanding Community Leader Award

On Jan. 31, 2008 the Ridge Trails Association (RTA) held its annual meeting. At this meeting our very own Linda Riggs was elected to the Broad of Directors for RTA and received the RTA's Outstanding Community Leader Award. You can check out the newspaper article by clicking here.

RTA is a nonprofit {501(c)(3)} organization that was founded in 2002.  The organization works solely by the dedication of their volunteers and has no paid staff members.  In 1999, Highlands County Recreation and Parks Advisory committee founded the Trails Initiative Committee (TIC).  This committee is a 3 person committee made of a person from the State Department of Transportation and 2 Highland County locals.  It's mission was to begin to develop a plan for blue-way, green-ways, trails and bike-ways in Highland's County. In 2000 and 2002 the TIC had it's master plan approve my the HCBCC.  This master plan paved the way for RTA to be founded.  RTA was given the mission of make a way for new biking, hiking, canoeing, equestrian, and nature trails.  It also has the great responsibility of upkeep on the current trails system and promoting it uses.  If you would like more information on the Ridge Trails Association visit there website by clicking here or you can call Linda at (863) 471-1800.
